Syntax Creative, a leading digital distribution and marketing company for independent music, has announced a strategic partnership with Grapetree Records as the pioneering rap label celebrates the 30th anniversary of its launching. The collaboration aims to expand the reach of its classic catalog, bringing the music to a new audience, and ultimately making room to develop new music.
“We are thrilled to partner with Grapetree Records and bring their genre-defining music into our system,” said Syntax Creative CEO Timothy Trudeau. “Grapetree started releasing music when I was still in high school and definitely paved the way for the rest of us. I’m excited to now return that same favor.”
Grapetree has a rich history of developing rap and gospel artists, including Lil Raskull, E-Roc, Nuwine, Antonious, and other industry pioneers. Even Lecrae most recently cited Grapetree as a formidable influence on his own career and tweeted the bold statement that without Grapetree, there would be no Lecrae.
“Partnering with Syntax Creative is a strategic move for us,” said Grapetree Records CEO Knolly Williams. “We recognize the importance of a digital strategy, and Syntax is the perfect partner to help us take our label well into the future.”
The partnership will provide Grapetree access to Syntax’s extensive distribution and marketing network. In addition to digital distribution, Syntax will collaborate on marketing and promotion efforts, including social media campaigns, playlisting, and media outreach. Syntax will even set up an extensive and automated accounting system.
“Every label has a group of loyal followers,” said Brandon Musser, VP of Operations for Syntax Creative. “Through this partnership, we hope to add to their number day by day.”
