The Kennedy Center Opera House came alive with music and celebration for the 48th annual Kennedy Center Honors program, held Sunday night in the nation’s capital. A star-studded list of talent joined together to recognize five icons for a lifetime achievement in the arts.
The 2025 honorees include George Strait, Michael Crawford, KISS, Sylvester Stallone, and Gloria Gaynor. In honor of her GRAMMY Award winning album, Testimony, Gospel artist Chris Blue was joined by friend and fellow Gaither artist Jason Crabb, as well as GRAMMY Award winning artist Mike Farris, to sing Gloria Gaynor’s rendition of the classic song, “Precious Lord.” Carrying that same energy into the next song, “Talkin’ Bout Jesus,” Debbie Winans was accompanied by a Gospel choir for a spirited moment that brought the audience to their feet. Blue, Crabb and Farris joined Winans on stage to finish out the song, as well as Elle King, Deniece Williams and Montana Tucker, who also participated in the Gloria Gaynor tribute.
“Honored doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel,” shares Chris Blue. “Gloria Gaynor is such an inspiration, the very definition of an icon, and to be asked to participate in this tribute to her is beyond my wildest dreams. My prayer is that we not only made Mrs. Gaynor proud, but brought glory to God in the process. I’ll be forever grateful to have been able to contribute to this incredible evening.”
The distinguished event was hosted by President Trump, who offered inspirational remarks about each honoree, and attended by an array of Washington’s elite and members of the arts community.
The 2025 Kennedy Center honors will air on Tues, Dec. 23rd at 8/7c on CBS.
