“There is a beautiful truth that I know. For the things that have ended in ashes, God has given me beauty. Where there was mourning, He has given me Joy. For times when I have felt overwhelmed by fear and depression, He has given me clothes of praise. For all of the questions that are still unanswered and situations without closure, there is the hope of redemption,” states Mullen. “This book is for everyone going through a life storm and looking to find clarity. It is for those who are looking for grace to help while they are still in it, and deals with the questions of “Is there a benefit to good people who suffer?” “Can God turn
my pain into purpose?”
2020 marks the 20th Anniversary since the release of the hit single, “Redeemer,” which garnered Mullen both “Song of The Year” and “Songwriter of The Year” awards from the Gospel Music Association, making her the first African-American female to receive such status. Mullen has twice won “Female Vocalist of the Year” honors for both “Redeemer” as well as “On My Knees,” which she also wrote. The Cincinnati, Ohio native has been recognized with two Grammy® Award nominations and nine Gospel Music Association Dove Awards as well as many other accolades including the induction into the Christian Music Hall of Fame in 2011.
In 2019, Mullen partnered with daytime TV-host, singer, songwriter and actress, Kathie Lee Gifford to pen what became another Dove nominated song, “The God Who Sees.” Gifford directed a short film, which was shot in Israel, for the song. The song was
performed by Mullen and features her throughout the TGWS project. “The God Who Sees” went on to win many awards and accolades both for the song as well as the film. After reading Mullen’s story, Kathie Lee Gifford offered to write the forward for the book.
“Nicole understands people who are suffering because she has suffered, too, in ways that will surprise you. In this book you will discover her story—tear-stained and triumphant. You will be moved to keep trusting Jesus as she has. You will be touched by her willingness to keep singing and praising and believing through disappointment after heartache after year after year of crying out to God to deliver her. Oh, yes, hallelujah! She knows her Redeemer lives, and she knows He sees YOU, too!” – Kathie Lee Gifford Television Personality,
