Industry Reacts to Nashville Tornado

The GMA is privileged to call Music City “home.” On March 3, a massive tornado ripped through downtown Nashville. Thankfully our staff and offices were unaffected. Nashville has been hit hard. A tornado tore through many of our neighborhoods last night causing unbelievable damage across our city. We are heartbroken and last night was so scary. I was home alone with our 3 kids and woke up to our house shaking . Spent a few hours in the basement with sweet neighbors, and the sun came up today , revealing just how bad the damage was. Our hearts are grateful for breath in our lungs, but heavy for all the lives, homes, and businesses lost. In the same breath, the sun came up today and there was a community rising up strong from a terrible storm, hands and feet showing up with love and chainsaws and water and food. I’ve never been more scared in my life , but I’ve also never been more sure that there is comfort and hope to be broken and shared with one another in the wake of a tragedy. Aching with all who lost so much today, grateful for another day to live, and so honored to see “the helpers” , like Mr Rogers reminds us all to look for. They showed up strong today in our neighborhood, and across our city. These pictures are all taken by dif friends of ours, just blocks from our home. Grateful too, for @drewholcombmusic who was on the phone all last night taking roll call with our people, and who got on the absolute earliest flight back home to come be a helper too. Hug your people tight tonight, y’all , and take a deep breath of gratitude for another day, no matter how messy it may be.

I have lived in Nashville my entire adult life. I love it. It’s a big city with a friendly nature. People will love well here. People will come together and here’s some info you may need to help or receive help. Lets love God with all our hearts by loving our neighbors as ourselves.

A tornado swept through East Nashville in the middle of the night on March 2, causing major damage and devastation. Dozens of lives were lost and hundreds were impacted. Today my heart is broken for Nashville and the middle Tennessee area in light of the devastating tornado that hit during the night. The entire Chapman family, and our Show Hope family is sad with and for the all those impacted. Our prayers will be ongoing as our community mourns… we love you Tennessee.

Tough morning here in Nashville. First of many tough ones ahead for so many. Searching for words as I look at the devastation of the tornado that struck our community overnight.

Houses can be be rebuilt. Businesses re-opened. There are hundreds if not thousands that lost nearly everything overnight. Let the body of Christ stand up and serve. Let’s all come together and pray. Let’s all come together and be the Hands and Feet. How can you help? Of course prayer… but if you feel inclined to do more, here are a couple suggestions… ONE WAY: * For several years I’ve had the privilege of serving on the Celebrity Council for the American Red Cross of Tennessee. * They were mobilized within minutes following the storm. They are already serving and sheltering the families who have lost so much. * Go to their facebook page, linked above, and learn more about how you can help them now. ANOTHER WAY: * Samaritan’s Purse U.S. Disaster Relief is an organization that I have long volunteered for and believe in. They very intentionally serve in moments of disaster around the world. * Go here to learn more about how they are working right now as they respond and serve all of the communities impacted by the storm: https://www.spvolunteer.org/project-response/233 LASTLY… I have received a ton of people emailing, calling, texting, and facebooking checking on how we are personally doing. All of the Smith family is doing well, we are just very sad for some of our friends who have lost so much. Thank you to everyone who is already serving. Thank you to the emergency responders who are going to be working around the clock to serve all of the people impacted.

Buildings completely leveled, lives torn apart, devastation all over this great city… Yet hearing about, and seeing how quickly this community has come together to help lift each other up out of the depths of pain and despair, is nothing short of awe-inspiring and the very heartbeat of what Nashville is all about…. keeping everyone on my heart and mind that was affected by these storms. Last night was a terrifying one. My family and I live about 30 min from this part of Nashville. I’m holding on a bit tighter to my sweet family and more grateful than ever to have a roof over our head. My heart hurts for my nashville family in the wake of this terrible storm. #prayfornashville

Many of you know that my wife and I have a ministry where we do laundry for the homeless in Nashville on Sundays after church (@the_laundry_stop). Last night the main tent community we work with got a direct hit from the tornado. One guy shared how his tent was lifted of the ground while he sat in in scared for his life! We’re currently cleaning out the closest Walmart of every tent and tarp we can find. You can help by visiting @the_laundry_stop acct and keeping up to date on the latest needs. Or DM me or my wife @jmcclarney if you’ve got extra tents, tarps or blankets. Also pray for this wonderful community! They already had minimal supplies and now they are completely and utterly devastated.?

We are away from our home caring for my wife’s father in Cleveland. We are safe. But early this morning tornadoes ? ripped across Tennessee early, shredding at least 40 buildings and killing at least nine people. One of my favorite venues where country bands get their start was destroyed. The Basement East. We will rebuild! One of the twisters caused severe damage across downtown Nashville. Heartbroken for my city. I personally had never experienced a tornado like that before…so scary and intense…but we were spared the worst. Others in our community just down the street were not. So so sad. Please pray for Nashville and the surrounding areas. #nashvillestrong #wewillrebuild

Hey everyone. If you’re watching the news you might see tornadoes hit Tennessee hard last night. This is a pic of @thebasementeast where we played our cd release show in August. We’re all a bit stunned as we all live in East Nashville, and felt the windows shaking last night, but relieved to report we’re all ok and our houses are good. Please pray for everyone effected by this. We lived through the flood ten years ago and can assure you Nashville knows how to come together in tragedy. Hope in the flood and the fire. First off… We are safe! There were multiple tornadoes through Nashville last night, and one of them actually came pretty close to our house. Amazingly, we all just slept right through it (didn’t even hear the sirens ?.) thank you for all of the texts and messages checking on us. Please pray for our city. Also… Pray that my family can be the hands and feet of Jesus during what will surely be a tough month of March!
