Thank you to our GMA Platinum Member Paul Cardall and All Heart Publishing for sharing about their company.
How did you get your start in the music industry? All Heart Publishing, LLC began with Paul Cardall, who took piano lessons and quit after 6 months as an 8 year old. But God had bigger plans.
Paul's friend David possessed an enchanting way of playing the piano, captivating everyone around him. Tragically, he was taken by the Lord in an auto-pedestrian accident just before their senior year of high school in 1990. This event, coupled with Paul's own journey of surviving three major open-heart surgeries, led him to grapple with profound questions of faith. Why was David taken while Paul remained? Why did Paul bear the scars of man-made interventions while David enjoyed health?
In the midst of this wrestling with God, Paul found solace at the upright piano in his living room. There, amidst the keys, he poured out his emotions. Three tender notes formed a melody, enveloping him in a sense of divine presence, like a warm blanket wrapping around him. Thus began Paul's journey into creating piano music.
Inspired by the works of Mozart, Yanni, George Winston, Michael W. Smith, and chord progressions and signature timing of the Canadian trio RUSH, Paul poured his heart into composing. The following year, he crafted and performed a concerto for their senior year event alongside the school orchestra. Seeking guidance from local artists, absorbing their wisdom, and delving into industry resources such as books, magazines, and documentaries, he honed his craft and understood the complexities of the music industry.
Divine providence brought pivotal figures into Paul's life, opening doors for him to perform at various venues, from restaurants to Nordstroms. Embracing the dawn of the internet age, he utilized email lists and offered his music on cassette tapes, accompanied by a sign inviting patrons to take home a memory for a modest fee.
A significant turning point came when multi-No. 1 New York Times Bestselling author Richard Paul Evans invited Paul to create a soundtrack inspired by his book, "The Christmas Box." Two years later, armed with invaluable experience, Paul acquired the rights to the album and secured a deal with Narada, the classical crossover/new age subsidiary of Virgin Records America. However, after two years, he made the decision to part ways and establish his own record label, Stone Angel Music.
The name "Stone Angel Music" pays homage to the stone angel statue erected by Richard Paul Evans at the Salt Lake City Cemetery, serving as a poignant memorial for parents grieving the loss of their unborn or premature children. Paul's music became a beacon of solace for those in mourning, resonating deeply with families affected by tragedies like the Oklahoma Federal Building Bombing.
With Stone Angel Music, Paul not only released his own albums but also signed talented artists to produce arrangements of hymns, including Steven Sharp Nelson (of The Piano Guys) with "Sacred Cello" and Ryan Tilby with "Sacred Guitar." Their collective mission was to infuse spaces with an atmosphere of peace, wherever their music reached.
Eventually, Stone Angel Music's catalogue found a new home with Anthem Entertainment, now operating under the banner of All Heart Publishing. Though the name may have changed, Paul's commitment to touching hearts and soothing souls remains steadfast.
