Founder Rebecca S. Jones started Redbird Common in 2017 without any inkling that she would still be putting these events on five years later. It began from the need for a venue when NSAI (Nashville Songwriters Association International) ran out of venues for all of the submissions for their week-long songwriter series, Tin Pan South. Jones shares, “I received the news and immediately called my friends at LabeLive (now IPS). I had just taken a tour of their space and had my fingers crossed they would say yes, and they did! I posted the event and within a couple of days, we had filled the room! I’ll never forget the phone call from the owner when he said, ‘Last night was amazing, Can we keep doing this?’ So we did and people keep showing up, so we keep doing it. And here we are five years later!”
Since 2017, Redbird Common has produced 23 events featuring over 110 artists and songwriters exclusively in Christian music. “We talk a lot about community, that’s what ‘Common’ is short for, but the stories and songs the artists and songwriters come to share with us is what keeps people coming back. Our community is so big now, so many people’s hearts have been changed, and I know that many more new songs have been inspired because of these events.”
On March 22, Redbird Common will host its five-year celebration in Franklin, Tennessee featuring 20 of the artists and songwriters who have been a part of the past 23 events. A few artists set to join are Chris McClarney, Jordan St. Cyr, Jon Reddick, Katy Nichole, and Dustin Lolli (Sanctus Real), along with songwriters such as Stu G (Delirious), Mitch Wong, Dwan Hill (Nashville Life Music), and Krissy Nordhoff. “We’re going to spotlight each artist and songwriter so they can share one of their hit songs with us. It’s truly a celebration of something so much bigger than Redbird Common. It’s about the songs, the stories of how they were written, and how God uses them to teach us and draw us closer to Him and together as a community.”
