Lecrae's new documentary Unashamed will premier at the Nashville Film Festival Sunday, September 21st, 2025, at the Regal Green Hill Cinema.
Directed by David Rivera (Kevin Costner's The West, My Generation, The Decades), Unashamed follows Grammy-winning hip hop artist Lecrae Moore and The 116 Clique, a groundbreaking collective of rappers who disrupted the norms of hip hop—and the expectations of American Christian culture. Rising from the margins, they achieved mainstream success with a sound and message that challenged the status quo. But when Lecrae began speaking out on racial injustice and systemic inequality, the movement faced backlash from the very faith community that once celebrated it.
“This film is about much more than music,” said director David Rivera. “It’s about what happens when conviction collides with culture, and the courage it takes to speak truth even when it costs you.”
Reflecting on the film, Lecrae said: “This documentary tells a story I’ve lived—the highs, the struggles, and the risk of speaking out when silence would have been safer. My hope is that it inspires people to embrace their convictions and understand that faith and justice are not at odds, but deeply connected.”
Featuring never-before-seen archival footage, candid interviews, and behind-the-scenes access, Unashamed traces the 116 movement’s meteoric rise, its cultural and spiritual impact, and the difficult road Lecrae and 116 hip hop artists faced when they refused to stay silent.
Unashamed was executive produced by Ben Howard (Blue Miracle, To Joey with Love, The Long Game), Adam Thomason (Anumasa-Inexhaustible Water, Muy Difícil) and produced by Erin Mae Miller (Boundary Waters, Love and Hip Hop) and Peter Scallettar (Wu Tang Clan, Starting 5) in partnership with Reach Records (Ben Washer and Lecrae Moore).
The Nashville Film Festival, one of the South’s most prestigious film events, is the ideal stage for Unashamed’s debut—bringing the story of faith, artistry, and justice to “Music City” and a place where the conversation on racial justice has been shaped by luminaries like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Senator John Lewis and many more.
The film will compete in Nashville Film Festival’s Music Documentary Features category among five other titles.
About Reach Records:
Reach Records is an Atlanta based independent hip-hop label founded in 2004 by Lecrae and Ben Washer. Long before acclaim, awards, plaques, chart positioning, and radio play, the two started the label because they both love hip-hop and Jesus. Reach Records was launched with no strategy, no funds, no big players, but they made big moves! Today Reach Records is a trailblazing label with a roster of nearly 10 artists and a staff of 20 who are unashamed about sharing their faith and passion about hip-hop. Reach Records is committed to building a movement that combines faith with music and popular culture.
