MercyMe is slated to perform at this year’s Dove Awards. After performing “Greater” at last year’s show—sporting bold matching shirts—who knows what the band has up their sleeves this time! Before they take the Dove stage, they’ll release their sophomore Christmas album, MercyMe, It’s Christmas! (Fair Trade Services), on Oct. 9. The project is the band’s first Christmas release in a decade and includes three originals, along with a slew of holiday classics. This Thanksgiving, the band—consisting of Bart Millard, Barry Graul, Nathan Cochran, Robby Shaffer and Mike Scheuchzer—will perform as part of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in support of the new record. They’re currently headlining a fall tour, with special guests Phil Wickham and Tim Timmons, before finishing out the year with select Christmas shows— many of which will feature local symphony orchestras. MercyMe guitarist Mike Scheuchzer recently took 60 seconds out of the group’s busy touring schedule for some Dove talk…
Proudest Dove Awards Moment To Date…
The first time we ever played on the Doves will always be special to us. Getting to share the stage with so many artists that we looked up to will always be a great memory.
This Year, I’ve Learned…
How to build a deck… Also, how to bandage a thumb.
What I’d Be Doing If I Wasn’t An Artist…
Something in music… I love the whole process of taking a song from something so rough and small in its early stages and watching it go from there to the stage and beyond.
Must-Watch TV Show To Binge While On Tour…
Currently binge re-watching “The X-Files”… Prepping for the new season. 🙂
Three Can’t-Live-Without Snacks We Always Keep On The Bus…
Coffee, coffee and coffee.
Most Memorable Tour Date Of The Last Year…
Due to us cutting back our touring schedule a bit the last few years to have more family time, I would say every show has felt more memorable this year than in past years. They all feel fresh, and we’re not getting burned out on touring, especially hearing the crowd sing along to our newest album [Welcome to the New]. It’s amazing to watch these songs connecting with people no matter where they are at in life and seeing a taste of what God is doing.
MercyMe will perform live at the 46th Annual GMA Dove Awards on Oct. 13. Watch them on the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) telecast Oct. 18, starting at 9 p.m. CST.
